http//www.euronews.com/ French President François Hollande has signed gay marriage into law making way for the first nuptials to take place in June. This makes France the ninth country to legalise same sex marriage and the 14th worldwide. The bill passed the final hurdle on Friday as the Constitutional Council gave it the all clear. It is the countrys largest social reform since abolishing the death penalty.I know that this law which will open up a new right without taking anything away from anyone else will be considered as a law of consensus of reconciliation of progress said French President François Hollande. The bill had faced bitter debate in parliament but was finally passed on April 23. Right wing MPs then petitioned the Constitutional Council in a last bid to block the law but their challenge was rejected. The issue has stirred strong sentiment with some of the largest street protests being held in Paris by opponents of same sex marriage.Though Hollandes signature has put paid to any hope for anti marriage for all groups to overturn the law a protest has been scheduled for May 26.Find us on Youtube http//bit.ly/zr3upY Facebook http//www.facebook.com/euronews.fansTwitter http//twitter.com/euronews
